Macbeth Reflection

What do you know about the character of Macbeth (his personality and aims) that would help you to know how to use your body language as an actor to portray him? Give an example.

I know that Macbeth was a brave man who is pressured into killing his friend, who is King Duncan. You can portray that you are mad whenever Lady Macbeth mentions killing King Duncan to show that Macbeth doesn't want to do it, and that he genuinely likes the King. He was also scared when he met the witches, so you can act fragile and shy or scared to show this.

What do you know about the characters of the witches that would help you to know how to use your voice as an actor to portray them? Give an example.

The characters of the witches are eerie and make people feel scared or uneasy. They are also quiet and mysterious. For this you can whisper and take long breaks in between what you say to show mysteriousness.

Can you describe one specific performance skill (acting skill) that you have improved on or developed this term through this unit? Give some examples of how or why you think you have got better.

In this unit, I have improved on not laughing during a performance, and that was a problem I faced in the past. I think it enhances the performance and makes it a lot more believable.

Describe some of the ways that you were able to create a specific atmosphere on stage in this unit of work.

One of the ways that you can create an atmosphere is lighting. If your trying to do a scary scene, make it dark or add a purple color. If your making a sad scene do a blue light etc. You can also add sound effects and props to make the atmosphere more believable.

What do you still think you need to improve on in terms of your drama skills? Write yourself a specific target of how to improve for next term.

For the next term I think I should focus on being more focused and stop messing around during a performance or in front of the audience.

  1. Your reflection shows me that you do have some understanding of how to use clues and information from the play text to inform your practical decisions as an actor of how to portray a character. You have given some basic examples to demonstrate this and identified some areas of strength and weakness. To get a higher grade you need to develop your answers a lot further to include more detail and explain your responses. You could have included some examples of dialogue, and talked about how you used your body language more specifically. You must avoid generalisations and say exactly what you would do with your voice or what you would do with your gestures and actions to show your character. 3/8 Criteria A
